In up to 70 percent of cases, a password protecting a difficult-to-crack Office 2013 document, a BitLocker volume or a RAR5 archive would be a simple variant of another user's password. Using the filtered word list from Elcomsoft Internet Password Breaker, Elcomsoft Distributed Password Recovery can solve up to 70 percent of cases in a few minutes by making simple mutations (e.g. adding up to 4 digits to the end of each password). Using a more complex mutation extends the attack period but can produce even better results.
